Single Dad. Second Chances. Meet Mack in the newest STANDALONE novel from New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward.

They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?

So was he perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.

At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.

Everyone wanted a piece of the hot, single father of the sweet little boy.

I became a woman I didn't recognize, someone riddled with jealousy, because they didn't know that--to me--he was much more.

They didn't know about our past.

He'd chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.

As my friend, Lorelai, so eloquently put it "Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls." And I was suffering in pain from my case.

I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with someone else just to protect my heart.

Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.

And soon I might be breaking all the rules.

Author's note - Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.

I never thought I’d see the day where I would love a book that contained a love triangle. But lo and behold, I loved Mack Daddy. I believe this is mainly because it’s not a love triangle in the traditional sense.

We meet Frankie on the opening day of school, greeting her new first graders. When the guy who broke her heart and left her devastated shows up with his little boy, she will realize all the work she’s done to get over him has been for naught.

Mack has followed the signs guiding him back to Frankie, and the fact that she would be a perfect fit for his little boy is just a bonus. Set on winning her back, he’ll have to convince Frankie to embark on a painful revisit of their separation in order to convince her to give him another chance.

Mack and Frankie’s story is far from simple, the fact that the author managed to make me love it with not only one, but two love triangles involved in the plot is short of a miracle. We get to rehash the past and present of their relationship, how they came to be at this point in their lives and see if they have the fortitude to withstand the myriad of sh-tuff that will be dumped on them.

Every time I thought “ok, the main issue is close to being resolved” a new situation would pop up. This means I got this book this morning and provided that I had the house all to myself and it was a Sunday… I read it all in one sitting (which included a lot of lying around and a little hammock time, but you know what I mean).

I really connected to both Mack and Frankie which made it possible for me to understand first Mack’s, then Frankie’s relationships situations as they worked through their feelings. The way the past and present chapters were intermingled was very well done and at no point did I feel confused or annoyed by the changes.

Mack had made some mistakes and he was determined not to repeat them again. Set on winning back the woman he’d considered “the one” for years he was undaunted in the face of adversity. I really liked how devoted he was to the well-being of his son, how loving and caring he was. His humor, dirty mouth and charm just made him that much dreamier.

Frankie was one weird woman, in a quirky rather than strange kind of way. And I loved her for it. She had to deal with severe social anxiety and mild OCD, but she was aware of it and constantly challenging herself to do better. Witnessing her feelings for Mack and their relationship as it evolved (both in the past and present) was lovely.

I do have to say that at some point I was starting to think “please, what else are you going to throw at them” as some very wild stuff started to come up as we approached the end. Also, I’m not sure everything regarding Mack’s son added up there at the end –his maturity level, his age, and his personal issues… but I found Frankie and Mack’s relationship so charming that I let some of these things slide.

“When I finally kiss you, Frankie, when I finally make love to you…I want you to be able to know that I’m fully yours with nothing holding us back.”

Mack Daddy is a steamy read, with some especially hot encounters, snort-inducing dialogue and a remarkably sweet romance. Just the fact that I loved it in spite of the love triangles says it all.

Mack Daddy edition by Penelope Ward Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Each and every time Penelope Ward releases a new book, I know I am in for an emotional, wonderful, sexy ride. Every time I read a new Penelope Ward book, there is a freshness I feel from new territory explored and incredible characters just born. MACK DADDY gave me all of that and more.

Mack Morrison had it all when he was a college student in Boston. A promising career in front of him, a girlfriend back in DC where he wanted his career to take root, and the most amazing roommate he could have ever conjured up in the depths of his imagination, the lovely Francesca, who he affectionately referred to as Frankie. As the Mack and Frankie grew close through laughter, attraction and devotion as young adults, they both wistfully hoped that one day the stars might align and they might get a romantic chance to be together. If only life were that easy.

Ten years after Mack and Frankie bonded, Francesca, a teacher in Boston, was stunned to find that one of the new students as the new school year started, was none other than Mack's son, Jonah. Forced to face the past, and the man she could never, truly let go of, Francesca slowly but surely let Mack back in…as a friend, while at the same time providing a safe, nurturing environment for Mack's anxious son.

Mack came back to Boston because he knew what and who he wanted, Frankie! Mack made it no secret that he always felt that magnetic pull toward her, and through stories from the past, and sweet moments in the now, Mack vows to win Frankie back!

Along the way we meet some fabulous characters. Some wise, some funny, and some dark and dirty! During the adventure of "Get Frankie back" we learn about all facets of life when separated from a true love for years.

I love second chance romances, vulnerable, sexy men who love their children and stories filled with hope! MACK DADDY offers all of this and more! You'll want to read this book for sure! Congratulations, Penelope!!!
I devoured this book in one sitting. That's how much I loved it. Mack captured my heart first and foremost with the love for his little boy. The twists, turns and seeing how Mack and Francesca dealt with the circumstances life threw at them Penelope Ward style made this book another winner by one of my top favorite authors.
I read it so fast I was actually sad when it ended because I just wanted to continue reading about these great characters we meet in this book. Penelope Ward writes second chance romances just the way I like them. They have to work at it and when it finally happens it is like fireworks, and explosion that takes you over the edge and there is no return from that feeling of contentment. Add to that the very particular humor that have you literally laughing out loud and the beautiful symbols that give the story a uniqueness and beauty that you will remember forever.
A story about second chances, true love, family, sticking together, trust, and forgiveness...and a whole lot of sexiness and good laughters.
